Food manufacturers and retailers launch joint Guidance on EU labelling rules

In September, FoodDrinkEurope, together with EuroCommerce, launched an online Guidance brochure to facilitate a common understanding between food retailers and manufacturers in the EU on the requirements of EU labelling rules which will enter into force next year [1].

Taking into account the changes that are needed as a result of the upcoming legislation, the Guidance document is a key aid for food business operators. The new EU Regulation is complex and the legal text leaves room for interpretation; the aim of the Guidance document is to provide further clarity to help bring consistency while also raising the awareness of the new labelling rules among food business operators across Europe and beyond.

Developed largely with the aim of assisting small and medium-sized food business operators and interested national authorities, the Guidance brochure is available here in an attractive and easy-to-read format.

[1] Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers enters into force on 13 December 2014.
